امسك الفرصة

You use the verb امسك (Imsik) which means 'hold' or 'grab.' If you are talking to a woman, you say امسكي (Imsiki). For a group, it is امسكوا (Imsiku). It is very flexible. You can drop it into a long sentence. Or, you can just shout it as a one-liner when someone is hesitating. It sounds active and energetic.

Use it when your friend finds a cheap flight to Dubai. Use it when a colleague gets a job offer from a top firm. It is perfect for those 'now or never' moments. If someone is nervous about asking for a promotion, tell them to امسك الفرصة. It works great in texts too. If a concert ticket goes on sale, send a quick message: 'The tickets are out, امسك الفرصة!'

Do not use this for serious or tragic situations. If someone is offered a 'chance' to do something unethical, this phrase is too positive. It carries a vibe of good fortune. Also, avoid using it for tiny, everyday things. You would not tell someone to 'seize the opportunity' to buy a loaf of bread. That just makes you sound like a dramatic movie character.

In many Arab cultures, there is a strong belief in 'Naseeb' or destiny. However, there is an equally strong belief in taking initiative. There is a famous saying about 'tying your camel' while trusting in God. امسك الفرصة represents the 'tying the camel' part. It is the human effort required to meet destiny halfway. It has become a staple in modern self-help and motivational talk across the Middle East.

If you want to sound more poetic or formal, use اغتنم الفرصة (Ightanim al-fursa). It means 'exploit' or 'make the most of' the opportunity. In Egyptian slang, you might hear الحق الفرصة (Ilhaq al-fursa), which means 'catch' the opportunity. But امسك الفرصة is the perfect middle ground. It is punchy, clear, and works everywhere from Cairo to Casablanca.
