Gerund (-araq/-ərək)
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use -araq/-ərək to describe how an action is performed, equivalent to the English 'by doing' or 'while doing'.
- Attach -araq to verbs with back vowels (a, ı, o, u): Yaz -> Yazaraq (By writing).
- Attach -ərək to verbs with front vowels (e, ə, i, ö, ü): Gəl -> Gələrək (By coming).
- The subject of the gerund must be the same as the main verb's subject.
