Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Clitics in Croatian must occupy the second position in a sentence, following the very first stressed word or phrase.
- Clitics cannot start a sentence: 'Vidim ga' (I see him), not 'Ga vidim'.
- Clitics must cluster together in a specific order: auxiliary verbs before pronouns.
- If a sentence starts with a conjunction like 'i' or 'a', the clitic follows the next word.
