Concessive Clauses: Despite, In spite of
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use 'չնայած' (despite) followed by a noun or gerund to express contrast between two facts.
- Use 'չնայած' + noun/pronoun: 'Չնայած անձրևին, մենք գնացինք զբոսնելու' (Despite the rain, we went for a walk).
- Use 'չնայած որ' + clause: 'Չնայած որ անձրևում էր, մենք գնացինք' (Despite the fact that it was raining, we went).
- Placement: Can start the sentence or follow the main clause with a comma.
