以至
You might already know how to use the word “所以” (suǒyǐ) to mean “so” or “therefore.” Well, “以至” (yǐzhì) is like an upgrade to “所以.” It shows a result or consequence, often one that's a bit more significant or even undesirable than what you'd use “所以” for.
Think of it as saying, “...so much so that...” or “...down to the point where...” It connects a cause to a result that goes a bit further.
For example, if someone works too hard, the result could be small (they're tired) or big (they get sick). For the bigger, more impactful result, you’d use “以至.”
It's often used with situations that have built up or intensified, leading to a specific, sometimes extreme, outcome.
