Passado Simples: Perguntas (Did you...?)

Você sempre vai usar o 'did' mais o 'verbo base' pra perguntar sobre ações que já 'aconteceram'.

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use 'Did' + Subject + Base Verb to ask about finished actions in the past.

  • Start with 'Did' for all subjects (I, you, he, they). Example: 'Did you go?'
  • Use the base form of the verb, NOT the past form. Example: 'Did he see?' (not 'saw')
  • Answer with 'Yes, I did' or 'No, I didn't' for short responses.
Did + 👤 + 🏃‍♂️ (Base Verb) + ?

Overview

Já perguntou a um amigo Did you went to the party? e recebeu um olhar estranho?

How This Grammar Works

Pense no did como um ajudante poderoso. Em termos gramaticais, chamamo-lo de verbo auxiliar. O seu único trabalho é dizer ao ouvinte:
Ei, estamos falando sobre o passado agora!
.
Como o did já carrega o passado da frase, o verbo principal permanece na sua forma base. É como uma equipe onde uma pessoa faz todo o esforço físico. Se você disser Did you go?, o did é a parte do tempo passado.
O go é apenas a palavra normal. Você nunca vai querer ter duas palavras no passado numa mesma pergunta. Isso seria como usar dois chapéus ao mesmo tempo — simplesmente parece ridículo.
Esta regra funciona para quase todos os verbos em inglês. Quer seja um verbo regular como play ou um irregular como see, o did lida com todos da mesma forma. O único grande rebelde é o verbo to be (was e were), mas chegaremos a isso mais tarde.
Por que os verbos amam o did? Porque ele permite que eles permaneçam jovens e mantenham a sua forma base!

Formation Pattern

1
Fazer uma pergunta no passado simples segue uma receita muito rigorosa. Siga estes passos para acertar sempre:
2
Comece com a palavra did.
3
Adicione o seu sujeito (como you, she, they ou your boss).
4
Use a forma base do verbo (sem -ed, sem mudanças irregulares).
5
Adicione quaisquer detalhes extras (como yesterday ou to the gym).
6
Termine com um ponto de interrogação.
7
Form | Exemplo | Tradução
8
--- | --- | ---
9
Did + I | Did I leave my keys? | Esqueci as minhas chaves?
10
Did + you | Did you see the news? | Viste as notícias?
11
Did + he/she/it | Did she call you? | Ela ligou-te?
12
Did + we | Did we win the game? | Nós ganhámos o jogo?
13
Did + they | Did they order pizza? | Eles pediram pizza?
14
Se quiser fazer uma pergunta específica como Where ou Why, basta colocar essa palavra logo no início. Por exemplo: Where did you go? ou What did you eat?.

When To Use It

Você usa este padrão sempre que tiver curiosidade sobre algo que aconteceu e terminou no passado. É perfeito para aqueles momentos de
pôr a conversa em dia
. Imagine que está enviando uma mensagem para um amigo sobre o fim de semana dele.
Você pode perguntar, Did you have fun? ou Did you see that movie?. Também é ótimo para verificar coisas no trabalho. Did you send that email? ou Did you finish the report?.
Pode usá-lo para coisas muito recentes, como Did you just hear that noise?, ou coisas de há muito tempo, como Did you live in London in 2010?. Também é a estrutura ideal para vlogs de viagens ou legendas do Instagram. Did we actually find the hidden beach? dá um ótimo gancho!
Lembre-se, a ação deve estar completamente concluída. Se ainda estiver acontecendo, você precisa de uma regra diferente.

Common Mistakes

A armadilha mais comum é usar a forma do passado do verbo principal com o did. Nunca diga Did you saw? ou Did you went?. Deve ser Did you see? e Did you go?. Pense no did como uma esponja que absorve todo o passado do outro verbo. Outro erro é esquecer o did completamente. Algumas pessoas dizem You went to the store? com a voz subindo. Embora as pessoas possam entendê-lo numa conversa casual, não é gramaticalmente correto para uma pergunta real. Além disso, tenha cuidado com o verbo to be. Você não pode dizer Did you be happy?. Em vez disso, use Were you happy?. Did e was/were são como óleo e água — não se misturam na mesma pergunta simples! Tentei apanhar nevoeiro há pouco. Perdi-o (I mist it). (Entendeu? Mist/nevoeiro? Missed/perder? OK, vamos seguir em frente).

Contrast With Similar Patterns

É fácil confundir isto com o Present Simple (do/does). Lembre-se, do/does é para hábitos ou fatos agora. Did é estritamente para o passado.
  • Presente: Do you like sushi? (Em geral)
  • Passado: Did you like the sushi? (O sushi específico que comeu ontem à noite)
Além disso, compare-o com a afirmação positiva no Passado Simple.
  • Afirmação: You went home. (Forma do passado usada)
  • Pergunta: Did you go home? (Forma base usada porque o did está lá)
Pense nisso como um equilíbrio. Numa frase positiva, o verbo carrega o peso do passado. Numa pergunta, o did intervém para ajudar e o verbo faz uma pausa. Tudo se resume a quem está fazendo o trabalho!

Quick FAQ

Q

Uso did com he ou she?

Sim! Ao contrário do presente (do/does), o did é o mesmo para todos. Did I, Did she, Did they — nunca muda.

Q

Posso responder apenas com Yes ou No?

Pode, mas é mais natural dizer Yes, I did ou No, I didn't. Faz você parecer muito mais um falante nativo!

Q

E quanto a was e were?

Esses são para descrições ou localizações. Use Did para ações. Were you tired? (Descrição) vs Did you sleep? (Ação).

Q

Está tudo bem usar did numa mensagem de texto?

Com certeza! É a forma padrão de fazer perguntas em qualquer contexto, de um e-mail formal a um grupo de WhatsApp.

Q

Por que o inglês é assim?

Porque o inglês adora verbos auxiliares! Assim que dominar o did, verá que will, can e should funcionam de forma semelhante.

Perguntas frequentes (8)

No. You must say `Did you go?`. The word `did` already tells us it is the past, so the main verb stays in the base form.

No. For the verb 'to be', you just swap the subject and the verb: `Were you happy?` (not `Did you were happy?`).

Yes! Unlike the present tense (do/does), `did` is the same for every subject in the past tense.

Use a short answer: `Yes, I did` or `No, I didn't`. This sounds more natural than just saying `Yes` or `No`.

Use `Did you see` for a specific time (yesterday). Use `Have you seen` for general experience (ever).

Yes. You can say `Didn't you see the sign?` to express surprise.

When the question word (Who/What) is the subject of the sentence, we don't use `did`. We just use the past tense verb.

No. Modal verbs like `can` (could) and `must` (had to) have their own ways of forming questions and do not use `did` support.
