Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
The subjunctive mood in Polish is used for wishes, possibilities, and polite requests, formed by adding '-by' to the past tense.
- Add '-by' to the past tense: 'Chciałbym' (I would like).
- Agreement is required: 'Chciałabym' (feminine) vs 'Chciałbym' (masculine).
- Use it for hypothetical situations: 'Gdybym miał czas, poszedłbym do kina' (If I had time, I would go).
