Cover this trampoline in three, two,

00:03

one. Oh my gosh. This is a car. And this

00:08

is a trampoline I designed specifically

00:10

to be strong enough to try and bounce a

00:12

car, or I guess technically even a boat.

00:14

Today, we'll be conducting some

00:15

experiments to see what happens when you

00:17

drop all sorts of stuff on a steel

00:19

trampoline weighing two tons with a mat

00:22

made out of Kevlar being held by 144

00:25

garage door springs. But to understand

00:26

how we even got to this point, we need

00:28

to go back 6 months ago when the guys

00:30

from the How Ridiculous YouTube channel

00:32

issued a challenge. We need to get

00:34

someone to help us engineer just an epic

00:37

trampoline that can bounce like almost

00:39

anything big. And I've got Marky Robber

00:41

on mine. And what you need to know about

00:43

them is that besides having funny

00:45

accents, they do all sorts of crazy

00:47

things, usually having to do with

00:48

gravity in some form or another. Their

00:51

content is always mind-blowing, so you

00:54

should subscribe to their channel if you

00:55

somehow haven't already. At any rate, a

00:57

lot of people seem to think this was a

00:59

worthy challenge, including myself. And

01:01

so, I got together with my buddy Josh

01:03

and first brainstormed ideas. Then, we

01:05

did some math. Then, we designed it in

01:07

CAD and ran it through a dynamic

01:09

analysis and eventually settled on a

01:11

design and sent the build plans to one

01:13

of their buddies who lives near the

01:14

tower. And so a few months later, all

01:16

that was left to do was walk to

01:17

Australia to meet the guys and check in

01:20

on the build.

01:21

[Applause]

01:24

Wow. The mat is made from Kevlar, which

01:27

is the same stuff bulletproof vests are

01:28

made of. It's so tough, the only thing

01:30

that could cut it to the right shape was

01:32

an angle grinder. The garage door

01:34

springs can support about 450 lbs a

01:36

piece, and we have 144 of them. Like a

01:39

thigh master.

01:41

They have those in Australia.

01:44

[Music]

01:46

[Applause]

01:51

And so after prepping at the shop, we

01:53

made our way to the tower to put it all

01:54

together.
