Sequencing Past Events with Past Perfect

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use Past Perfect to describe an action that happened and finished BEFORE another action in the past.

  • Combine the imperfect of 'съм' (бях, беше...) with the L-participle (чел, ходила).
  • The L-participle must agree in gender and number with the subject (бях тръгнал vs бяхме тръгнали).
  • Use it with 'преди' (before) or 'вече' (already) to clarify the timeline of events.
Subject + [бях/беше/беше...] + [Verb-L-Participle] + Past Event 2
