Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use the perfective aspect for single, completed goals and the imperfective for ongoing or repeated actions in purpose clauses.

  • Use perfective for a one-time goal: 'Отидох да купя хляб.' (I went to buy bread.)

Meanings

Purpose clauses in Bulgarian use the particle 'да' followed by a verb. The aspect of this verb depends on whether the goal is a single completed event or a continuous process.
