Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

The Definite Past Tense describes completed actions you witnessed or are certain happened, formed by adding suffixes to the verb stem.

  • Use -ды/-ді after consonants (e.g., барды - he went).
  • Use -ты/-ті after voiceless consonants (e.g., айтты - he said).
  • Add personal endings (e.g., бардым - I went, бардың - you went).

Meanings

The Definite Past Tense is used for actions that occurred at a specific time in the past and were witnessed by the speaker or are considered factual.
