Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

In Kannada, you don't change the word order to ask a question; you simply add the particle 'ಅ' (a) to the end.

  • Keep the Subject-Object-Verb (SOV) order: 'ನೀವು ಕಾಫಿ ಕುಡಿಯುತ್ತೀರಾ?' (Do you drink coffee?)
  • Add the question particle 'ಅ' to the end of the sentence to turn a statement into a question.
  • For 'Wh-' questions, place the question word (who, what, where) in the position of the information requested.

Meanings

Kannada uses a fixed SOV word order. Questions are formed by adding the particle 'ಅ' at the end of a sentence or by using specific question words like 'ಏನು' (what) or 'ಯಾರು' (who).
