Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
The passive voice shifts focus from the doer to the action, while reported speech conveys what others have said.
- Use the passive voice when the action is more important than the actor: 'Το σπίτι χτίστηκε' (The house was built).
- Reported speech often uses 'ότι' (that) or 'πως' (how) to introduce indirect statements.
- In passive voice, the agent is introduced with 'από' (by): 'Το βιβλίο γράφτηκε από τον συγγραφέα'.
Meanings
The passive voice allows the speaker to emphasize the recipient of an action rather than the performer. Reported speech allows for the relaying of information.
