Friendship is a long-term commitment. It is not common to call someone a 'przyjaciel' after just a few weeks. The term 'friend' is used much more loosely. 'Dobry przyjaciel' in Polish is closer to 'best friend' or 'close friend' in English. Similar to Poland, 'drug' (friend) is a very strong term compared to 'priyatel' (acquaintance).
