Get Something Done: Causative Get

Get something done = arrange for someone else to do it for you. This is the causative structure with get. It is more informal than have something done.

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use 'get + object + past participle' to describe arranging for someone else to perform a service for you.

  • Use 'get + object + past participle' when the focus is on the result: 'I got my car fixed.'
  • Use 'get + person + to + infinitive' when you persuade someone: 'I got him to help me.'
  • The past participle always describes the action performed on the object, not the person doing it.
Subject + get + Object + Past Participle (e.g., I + got + my hair + cut)
