Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use 'as if' or 'as though' to describe how something appears, often using the past tense to show it's hypothetical.
- Use present tense for real possibilities: 'He acts as if he knows.'
- Use past tense for unreal/hypothetical situations: 'He acts as if he knew.'

Meanings
These conjunctions introduce a clause of manner, describing how someone behaves or how a situation appears to be.
Hypothetical Manner
Describing an action that is not necessarily true but appears so.
