The Latin Core and Special Characters

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Lithuanian uses the Latin alphabet plus nine special characters (ą, č, ę, ė, į, š, ų, ū, ž) to represent unique sounds.

  • Use 'č' for the 'ch' sound in 'church': 'ačiū' (thank you).
  • Use 'š' for the 'sh' sound in 'shoe': 'šuo' (dog).
  • Use 'ž' for the 's' sound in 'pleasure': 'žalias' (green).
