The 'Ne' Suffix for Subjects

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use the suffix '-ne' after the subject when the verb is in a past tense transitive form.

  • Add '-ne' to the subject when the verb is transitive in past tense: 'Ram-ne kela' (Ram did it).
  • The object determines the verb agreement, not the subject: 'Ram-ne amba khalla' (Ram ate the mango).
  • Do not use '-ne' with intransitive verbs like 'to go' or 'to come' in the past tense.
