Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

To tell someone not to do something, add the suffix '-mə' or '-ma' to the verb root before the person marker.

  • Use '-ma' if the last vowel is a, ı, o, u (e.g., Yazma! - Don't write!)
  • Use '-mə' if the last vowel is e, ə, i, ö, ü (e.g., Getmə! - Don't go!)
  • For plural or formal, add '-yın/-yin' after the negative suffix (e.g., Getməyin! - Don't go!)

Meanings

The negative imperative is used to issue prohibitions, warnings, or requests for someone to refrain from an action.
