Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use 'въпреки че' and 'макар и' to connect two ideas where the second happens despite the first.
- Use 'въпреки че' for full clauses: 'Въпреки че валеше, излязохме' (Even though it rained, we went out).
- Use 'макар и' with adjectives/participles: 'Макар и уморен, той продължи' (Though tired, he continued).
- Always place a comma before the conjunction if it starts the second clause.

Conjunctions used to introduce a subordinate clause that expresses a circumstance which might have prevented the action in the main clause but did not.
Standard Concession
Introducing a full clause with a subject and a verb to show contrast.
“Въпреки че не се познаваме, аз ти вярвам.”
“Макар че е още млад, той е много опитен.”
Reduced Concession
Using 'макар и' followed directly by an adjective, adverb, or participle without a full verb.
“Макар и малък, апартаментът е уютен.”
