  • Prefix + Stem + Auxiliary (-allähu/alläh/al/etc.)

Errores comunes

Using the past tense stem (säbbärä) with present tense endings is incorrect. You must use the imperfective stem (säbr).

Wrong: እኔ ሰበረለሁ (Iné säbbärällahu)
Correcto: እኔ እሰብራለሁ (Iné isäbrallahu)

Mixing up prefixes. 'እ-' (i-) is only for 'I'. 'ይ-' (yi-) is for 'He'.

Wrong: እሱ እሄዳለሁ (Isu ihedallahu)
Correcto: እሱ ይሄዳል (Isu yihedal)

Using the plural 'you' suffix for a singular feminine 'you'. Amharic is very specific about gender and number in conjugation.

Wrong: አንቺ ትበላላችሁ (Anchi tibellallachu)
Correcto: አንቺ ትበያለሽ (Anchi tibeyallesh)
