Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

In Bulgarian, adding a prefix to an imperfective verb turns it into a perfective verb, indicating a completed action.

  • Imperfective verbs describe ongoing actions: 'Пиша' (I am writing).
  • Adding a prefix creates a perfective verb: 'Напиша' (I will write/finish writing).
  • Perfective verbs cannot be used in the present tense to describe ongoing habits.
