You use it for actions happening right now.
It is like a video of your life.
For example, I am reading this sentence.
Also, you are learning English.
This tense helps you talk about the world today.
It makes your English sound very natural.
To make it, you need two parts.

Then add -ing to your action word.

How This Grammar Works

This grammar has two parts.
Think of it like a machine with two parts.
The first part is am, is, or are.
The second part is the action with -ing.
The first part tells us *who* is doing the action.
It also tells us the action is happening *now*.
You must use this part to make a good sentence.
The -ing part shows the action is not finished.
It shows movement and time.
When you hear -ing, the action is in the middle.
For example, He is building a house.
The house is not finished yet.
Look at the difference:
I play guitar. (This is a hobby.)
I am playing guitar. (I am doing it now.)
The first is a fact.
The second is an action happening now.

FAQ (8)

Yes! You can use it for fixed plans, like `I'm meeting my friend at 5 PM.`

`Like` is a stative verb. These verbs describe feelings or states, not actions, so they usually stay in the Simple Present.

`I'm working` means right now. `I work` means it is your job or habit.

No, only for short verbs that end in one vowel and one consonant, like `run` -> `running` or `sit` -> `sitting`.

Technically no, but it's used in informal English and advertising (like McDonald's) to show strong, temporary emotion.

Put the 'be' verb first. Instead of `You are eating`, say `Are you eating?`.

Yes, but it usually means you are annoyed. `You are always losing your phone!`

Look for `now`, `at the moment`, `currently`, `today`, and `this week`.
