現在進行形:今起こっている行動
am/is/are と verb-ing をセットで使いましょう。
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use the Present Continuous to describe actions happening exactly at this moment or temporary situations in your life.
- Combine the verb 'to be' (am/is/are) with a verb ending in '-ing'. Example: 'I am eating.'
- Add 'not' after 'to be' for negatives. Example: 'She is not (isn't) working.'
- Move 'to be' to the front for questions. Example: 'Are you listening?'
Overview
Present Continuous(現在進行形)の魔法なんだ。 How This Grammar Works
to be。 Formation Pattern
to be 動詞の正しい形(am, are, is)を足す。
-ing をくっつける。
When To Use It
Present Simple(現在形)を使おう。この特定の期間だけに起きていることなら、Present Continuous を使うんだ。「Googleで働いています(I work at Google)」(自分の仕事)と、「今日はGoogleで仕事をしてるんだ(I'm working at Google today)」(今物理的にそこにいる)の違いだね。Common Mistakes
am、is、are を忘れちゃうんだ。「He is working」と言うべきところを「He working」って言っちゃう。エンジンなしで車を運転しようとするようなものだね。-ing が嫌いな動詞があるんだ。これらは「状態動詞」と呼ばれていて、動作ではなく感情や状態を表すんだよ。例えば「このピザを気に入っている」を「I'm liking this pizza」とは言えない。マクドナルドのキャッチコピーに「I'm lovin' it」っていうのがあるけど、厳密な文法では「I like this pizza」と言うのが正解。他にも want、know、need、believe なんかがそうだね。何かを「be knowing(知っている最中)」とは言わず、単に know(知っている)と言うんだ。Run は running に、Sit は sitting になる。もし語尾が e で終わるなら、それを取っちゃおう! Make は making になる。余計な文字に惑わされないでね。ちょっとオシャレしてるだけだからさ。Contrast With Similar Patterns
Present Continuous の最大のライバルは Present Simple だ。Present Simple は「いつも・大抵」の時制だと考えて。事実や習慣、一般的に正しいことについて使うんだ。「太陽は東から昇る(The sun rises in the east.)」とか、「毎朝お茶を飲む(I drink tea every morning.)」とかね。一方で Present Continuous は「今まさに・一時的」な時制なんだ。I live in Madrid.
(ここは僕の永住の地だ。)I am living in Madrid.
(一時的に住んでいる感じ。今学期だけ、とかね。)
He plays guitar.(彼はギターが弾ける。ギタリストなんだ。)He is playing guitar.
(シーッ!今隣の部屋で弾いてるんだよ!)
Quick FAQ
未来のことに Present Continuous を使ってもいいの?
もちろん!予定がしっかり決まっているならね。「明日ニューヨークに飛ぶんだ(I'm flying to NYC tomorrow.)」みたいにね。
「今この瞬間」やっていないことでもいいの?
人生における「プロジェクト」ならOKだよ。今まさに本が枕元に置いてあるだけだとしても、「すごい本を読んでいるんだ(I'm reading a great book)」って言えるんだ。
イギリスの友達は "I'm having a bath« って言うのに、アメリカの友達は »I'm taking a bath" って言うのはなぜ?
どっちも正解!どちらも進行中の動作を説明するために Present Continuous を使っているよ。
"I'm loving this"(これめっちゃ気に入ってる)って言っても大丈夫?
カジュアルな会話ならOK!言葉は常に進化しているからね。でも、英語の試験では I love this にしておいたほうが無難かな。

記憶術
Remember 'BE + ING = HAPPENING'. You need both parts to make the action move!
視覚的連想
Imagine a video camera recording a scene. The red 'REC' light is blinking—that's the '-ing' part. The camera itself is the 'be' verb holding everything together.
Rhyme
Am, is, are, and a verb with -ing, tells us now what's happening!
Story
Imagine you are a reporter. You are standing in the middle of a busy street. You look around and say: 'The cars are moving, the people are walking, and I am talking to you!'
Word Web
チャレンジ
Look around the room right now. Say three things that are happening using 'is' or 'are'. (e.g., 'The clock is ticking.')
文化メモ
Using the Present Continuous for future plans (e.g., 'I'm meeting him later') sounds more natural and certain than using 'will'.
In very casual speech, the 'g' in '-ing' is often dropped and replaced with an apostrophe (e.g., 'runnin', 'talkin').
Often used with 'just' to soften a request or explanation.
The 'be + -ing' construction developed in Middle English, likely evolving from an older construction 'be + on + verbal noun'.

よくある質問 (8)
Yes! You can use it for fixed plans, like `I'm meeting my friend at 5 PM.`
`Like` is a stative verb. These verbs describe feelings or states, not actions, so they usually stay in the Simple Present.
`I'm working` means right now. `I work` means it is your job or habit.
No, only for short verbs that end in one vowel and one consonant, like `run` -> `running` or `sit` -> `sitting`.
Technically no, but it's used in informal English and advertising (like McDonald's) to show strong, temporary emotion.
Put the 'be' verb first. Instead of `You are eating`, say `Are you eating?`.
Yes, but it usually means you are annoyed. `You are always losing your phone!`
Look for `now`, `at the moment`, `currently`, `today`, and `this week`.
