Review Summary

  • [Statement] + ?
  • [Subject] + શું (Shu) + છે (Che)?
  • [Place] + ક્યાં (Kyan) + છે (Che)?

أخطاء شائعة

English speakers often put the 'Where' at the start. In Gujarati, the subject (Ghar) comes first, followed by the question word (Kyan).

Wrong: ક્યાં છે ઘર? (Kyan che ghar?)
صحيح: ઘર ક્યાં છે? (Ghar kyan che?)

Using 'Shu' (What) for people is incorrect. Use 'Shu' only for objects or actions. For people, we use 'Kon' (Who), which we will learn later.

Wrong: તમે શું છે? (Tame shu che?)
صحيح: તમે કોણ છો? (Tame kon cho?)

If you don't raise your pitch at the end of a yes/no question, it sounds like a statement. The listener won't know you are asking a question.

Wrong: Aa pustak che. (flat tone)
صحيح: Aa pustak che? (rising tone)
