The Plural Suffix -k
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
To make a noun plural in Hungarian, simply add the suffix -k to the end of the word.
- Add -k to words ending in a vowel: alma -> almak (Wait, see vowel harmony rules!)
- Add -ok, -ek, or -ök to words ending in a consonant based on vowel harmony.
- If the word ends in a vowel like 'a' or 'e', it often lengthens before the -k.
