Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Kazakh suffixes change their vowels to match the last vowel of the word they attach to.

  • If the last vowel is hard (a, o, u, y), use hard suffixes: 'balalar' (children).
  • If the last vowel is soft (ä, ö, ü, i, e), use soft suffixes: 'kölder' (lakes).
  • If the word ends in a voiced consonant, use voiced suffixes; if unvoiced, use unvoiced.
Word (Last Vowel) + Suffix (Matching Vowel)
