Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Mongolian suffixes change their vowels to match the last vowel of the word root.

  • If the root has 'a', 'o', or 'u', the suffix uses 'a' or 'o'. Example: 'nom-oo' (my book).
  • If the root has 'e', 'ö', or 'ü', the suffix uses 'e' or 'ö'. Example: 'ger-ee' (my home).
  • The vowel 'i' is neutral and usually follows the harmony of the preceding syllable.
