Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Telugu has two words for 'we': 'mana' includes the listener, while 'memu' excludes them.

  • Use 'mana' (inclusive) when you and the listener are both doing the action: 'Mana intiki veldam' (Let's go home).
  • Use 'memu' (exclusive) when you and others are doing the action, but not the listener: 'Memu velthunnam' (We are leaving).
  • Always check if your listener is part of the group before choosing your pronoun.
