The Dative Case (Yönlük Hal): Direction and Recipient

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

The Dative case shows direction or a recipient by adding -a or -ə to a noun.

  • Use -a if the last vowel is a, ı, o, u (e.g., kitab-a).
  • Use -ə if the last vowel is e, ə, i, ö, ü (e.g., ev-ə).
