Overview
não antes do verbo: Eu não quero,
Ele não fala.
don't e doesn't. Elas são as contrações de do not e does not.
Se você disser I not like coffee, qualquer pessoa vai te entender, mas a frase está gramaticalmente errada. Quando queremos negar, juntamos esses auxiliares com a palavra not:do + not = don'tdoes + not = doesn't
Quem faz o trabalho pesado de mostrar a negação e a pessoa da frase é o auxiliar.doesn't (para a terceira pessoa: he, she, it), ele rouba a conjugação do verbo principal. Ele é o padrão para o plural e para as duas primeiras pessoas do singular.I (eu), you (você/vocês), we (nós/a gente), they (eles/elas).don't + Verbo Principal (forma base).I don't speak Japanese.(Eu não falo japonês.)You don't need a car in this city.(Você não precisa de carro nesta cidade.)We don't work on weekends.(Nós/A gente não trabalha aos finais de semana.)They don't live near the beach.(Eles não moram perto da praia.)
doesn't (does + not)doesn't é exclusivo para a terceira pessoa do singular. É aqui que os brasileiros precisam de um pouco mais de atenção, pois é onde a regra muda levemente.he (ele), she (ela), it (ele/ela para objetos, animais ou situações).doesn't + Verbo Principal (forma base — sem o 's').He doesn't like spicy food.(Ele não gosta de comida apimentada.)She doesn't have an iPhone.(Ela não tem um iPhone.)The computer doesn't work.(O computador não funciona — aqui o computador éit).
I | don't | eat | I don't eat meat. |You | don't | know | You don't know my boss. |He | doesn't | play | He doesn't play the guitar. |She | doesn't | study | She doesn't study at night. |It | doesn't | rain | It doesn't rain much here. |We | don't | watch | We don't watch horror movies. |They | don't | travel | They don't travel in July. |eat, know, play, study, etc.) permanece exatamente igual na coluna do verbo.
I don't check my emails after 6 PM.(Eu não checo meus e-mails depois das 18h). - No contexto de saúde:
He doesn't drink soda.(Ele não bebe refrigerante).
- Exemplo:
The sun doesn't go around the Earth.(O sol não gira em torno da Terra). - No Brasil:
It doesn't snow in Rio de Janeiro.(Não neva no Rio de Janeiro).
- Exemplo:
We don't like that restaurant.(Nós não gostamos daquele restaurante). - Conversando sobre política ou ideias:
She doesn't agree with you.(Ela não concorda com você).
- Exemplo:
I don't have a credit card.(Eu não tenho cartão de crédito). - Sobre um amigo:
He doesn't have a car, he uses Uber.(Ele não tem carro, ele usa Uber).
- Exemplo:
I don't know the answer.(Eu não sei a resposta). They don't speak English very well.(Eles não falam inglês muito bem).
Double S (Duplo S):She likes, muitos alunos tendem a dizer She doesn't likes.- Por que acontece? O cérebro quer manter a marcação de terceira pessoa no verbo principal.
- Como corrigir: Lembre-se que o
doesn'tjá é odonodos. Pense assim: ospulou do verbo principal para o auxiliar. O correto é sempre:She doesn't like.
I not want ou He not work.- Por que acontece? Em português, basta o
não. A gente tenta traduzir literalmente:Eu (I) não (not) quero (want)
don't com am/is/are. Exemplo: I don't am hungry ou She doesn't is a teacher.- Por que acontece? O aluno aprende que
don'ténãoe tenta aplicar em tudo. - Como corrigir: O verbo
to beé independente. Ele não precisa de auxiliar. Para ele, usamos apenas onot(I am not,She is not).
He don't know em vez de He doesn't know.- Por que acontece? O
He,She,Itsempre pedemDoesn't. Uma dica é associar osdeShecom osdeDoesn't.
don't/doesn't) e negar um estado ou característica (usando o Verbo to be). No português, usamos a palavra não para ambos, o que gera confusão.I don't work. (Eu não trabalho) | I am not tired. (Eu não estou cansado) |She doesn't live here. (Ela não mora aqui) | She is not Brazilian. (Ela não é brasileira) |They don't eat fish. (Eles não comem peixe) | They are not at home. (Eles não estão em casa) |I don't | He doesn't |You don't | She doesn't |We don't | It doesn't |They don't | The dog doesn't (singular) |The dogs don't (plural) | My friend doesn't (singular) |The dogs), usamos don't. Se for singular (como The dog), usamos doesn't.
I don't do my homework.
it.It doesn't rain much here. Tranquilo? Agora é só praticar!2. Notas culturais
In some dialects like AAVE, 'he don't' is used consistently as a marker of identity, though it is not used in formal business English.
In some Northern English dialects, 'do not' might be shortened differently in regional speech, but 'don't' remains the standard.
Using the full 'do not' is preferred in legal contracts to avoid any ambiguity that a contraction might cause.
The use of 'do' as an auxiliary verb (do-support) began to appear in English around the 1300s.

Perguntas frequentes (8)
English verbs (except 'be' and modals) cannot carry negation on their own. We need the 'helper' verb `do` to hold the word `not`.
In standard English, no. It should be `He doesn't`. However, you will hear `He don't` in some songs and dialects.
`Don't` is a contraction used in speaking. `Do not` is the full form used for formal writing or for strong emphasis.
Never. When `doesn't` is present, the main verb is always in its base form (e.g., `He doesn't go`, not `He doesn't goes`).
No. `I am not` is for descriptions. `I don't` is for actions. You cannot say `I don't am`.
It sounds like 'DUZ-ent'. The 't' at the end is often very soft or silent.
No, it is for anything singular that isn't 'I' or 'You'. For example: `The car doesn't start.`
Since 'Tom and Jerry' is 'They', you use `don't`. Example: `Tom and Jerry don't like each other.`
