Expressing Inchoative and Terminative Aspects
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use 'սկսել' (to start) and 'ավարտել' (to finish) with the infinitive or dative case to define the boundaries of an action.
- Use 'սկսել' + infinitive for the start: 'Նա սկսեց երգել' (He started to sing).
- Use 'ավարտել' + -ելով (instrumental) or noun for the end: 'Նա ավարտեց աշխատանքը' (He finished the work).
- Use 'դադարել' + -ելուց (ablative) to cease an ongoing action: 'Նա դադարեց խոսելուց' (He stopped talking).

These verbs define the temporal boundaries of an action, indicating either the inception (inchoative) or the cessation (terminative) of a process.
Inchoative (Start)
The initiation of a state or action.
“Նա սկսեց կարդալ գիրքը։”

Terminative (End)
The completion or cessation of an action.
“Նա ավարտեց նամակը գրելը։”
“Նա դադարեց ծխելուց։”
