Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Russian plurals change based on the last letter of the noun; remember -ы, -и, or -а/-я.

  • Hard consonants add -ы: стол (table) becomes столы (tables).
  • Soft consonants or -й add -и: музей (museum) becomes музеи (museums).
  • Nouns ending in -а or -я change to -ы/-и: книга (book) becomes книги (books).
Noun (singular) + Ending Change = Noun (plural)
