Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Short pronouns (clitics) must always sit in the second position of a sentence, following the first stressed word or phrase.
- Always use the second position: 'Ja ti ga dajem' (I give it to you).
- Dative comes before Accusative: 'On mi (Dat) ga (Acc) je dao'.
- The particle 'li' always comes first in the clitic cluster.

Meanings
Short form pronouns are unstressed versions of personal pronouns used when the pronoun is not being emphasized. They are grammatically required in most neutral sentences.
Object Replacement
Used to replace direct or indirect objects to keep the sentence flow natural.
“Daj mi knjigu. (Give me the book.)”
“Rekao sam mu istinu. (I told him the truth.)”
Reflexive Use
The clitic 'se' is used for reflexive actions or passive-like constructions.
“On se brije. (He is shaving.)”
