Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

In spoken Tamil, short vowels at the end of words or between consonants often disappear to increase speech speed and flow.

  • Final short vowels like 'u' are often dropped: 'veedu' becomes 'veed'.

Meanings

Vowel deletion is the process where short vowels, particularly the 'u' (குற்றியலுகரம்) or internal short vowels, are omitted in connected speech.
