A 供应商 (gōngyìngshāng) is a company or individual that provides goods or services to another company or individual. It's a formal term often used in business contexts.
Some learners might confuse 供应商 with 卖家 (màijiā), which means 'seller'. While a supplier is often a seller, 供应商 specifically refers to the provider in a supply chain, not just anyone who sells something. Another common mistake is using it for a general 'provider' of something abstract, like 'a provider of joy'. It's strictly for goods and services.
