In Bangladesh, 'গরম কাল' is the time of the 'Boishakhi Mela' (fairs). People wear red and white and eat 'Panta Ilish' to celebrate the New Year during the peak heat. In Kolkata, 'গরম কাল' means the struggle with crowded buses and the relief of a 'Cold Coffee' at College Street or a 'Sherbet' at Paramount. In villages, 'গরম কাল' is when people sit under large Banyan trees (Bot-tola) to escape the midday sun. It's a time of community storytelling. For Bengalis living abroad, 'গরম কাল' often triggers nostalgia for the smell of rain hitting dry earth (Petrichor) and the taste of authentic Himsagar mangoes.
