. En inglés, sin embargo, el idioma es mucho más específico sobre la estructura gramatical y la intención detrás de la comunicación.
Entender la diferencia entre say y tell es fundamental para alcanzar un nivel intermedio (B1) sólido. No se trata solo de gramática; se trata de sonar natural. Si dices She said me the news, un nativo te entenderá, pero sonará forzado y gramaticalmente incorrecto.

### How This Grammar Works
Para dominar say y tell, primero debemos entender un concepto gramatical llamado transitividad. No te asustes por el término; es más simple de lo que suena. Un verbo es transitivo cuando necesita un objeto para completar su significado.
En el caso de estos dos verbos, la clave está en *qué* objeto necesitan.
En inglés, tell es lo que llamamos un verbo ditransitivo en la mayoría de sus usos. Esto significa que necesita dos cosas: a quién se le dice algo (el objeto indirecto) y qué se dice (el objeto directo). Imagínate que tell es como lanzar una pelota; necesitas a alguien que la reciba.
Por eso, casi siempre verás una persona inmediatamente después de tell: tell me, tell him, tell the boss.
Por el contrario, say es generalmente monotransitivo. Su enfoque principal es el mensaje, no el receptor. Si tell es lanzar una pelota a alguien, say es simplemente dejar caer la pelota al suelo.
El mensaje está ahí, pero no hay un receptor gramaticalmente obligatorio en la estructura principal. Piensa en tus conversaciones de WhatsApp: si alguien te escribe un mensaje largo con instrucciones para una fiesta, dirías He told me how to get there. Pero si solo quieres mencionar que saludó, dirías He said hello.

Error 1: She said me...
Este es el error número uno de los hispanohablantes. En español decimos Ella me dijo, por lo que instintivamente queremos decir She said me.
  • Por qué ocurre: En español, el pronombre me va pegado al verbo decir. En inglés, say no puede aceptar un receptor directo sin la preposición to.
  • La corrección: She told me o She said to me. La primera es mucho más común.
Error 2: I told that it was late.
Aquí el error es el opuesto. Queremos usar tell pero olvidamos poner al receptor.
