Said در مقابل Told: تفاوت چیست؟

'Told' always needs a listener mentioned in the sentence; 'said' doesn't.

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use 'tell' when you mention the listener immediately after the verb; use 'say' when the focus is on the words themselves.

  • Use 'tell' with a personal object: 'He told me the secret.'
  • Use 'say' without a personal object: 'She said she was tired.'
  • Use 'say to' if you must mention the listener with 'say': 'He said to me that he was leaving.'

### Overview
### How This Grammar Works
برای درک عمیق این مبحث، باید به مفهوم «تعدی» یا همان transitivity در دستور زبان انگلیسی توجه کنیم. فعل say عمدتاً بر «بیان کردن» تمرکز دارد. وقتی می‌گوییم He said that he was tired، تمرکز ما بر روی خودِ جمله یا خبری است که منتقل شده.
در اینجا that he was tired مفعول مستقیم ماست. اگر بخواهیم مخاطب را اضافه کنیم، باید بگوییم He said to me that he was tired. در اینجا me مفعول فعل said نیست، بلکه متمم حرف اضافه to است.
در نقطه مقابل، فعل tell بر «انتقال اطلاعات» به یک شخص خاص تمرکز دارد. این فعل به صورت ذاتی به یک مفعول غیرمستقیم (شخص) و یک مفعول مستقیم (پیام) نیاز دارد. به همین دلیل وقتی می‌گوییم She told me the story، کلمه me مفعول مستقیم فعل told است.
### Formation Pattern
جدول زیر الگوی ساختاری این دو فعل را برای شما شفاف می‌کند:
| فعل | ساختار اصلی | مثال انگلیسی |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| Say | Subject + said + (that) + clause | He said that he was busy. |
| Say | Subject + said + to + someone | She said to me, 'Hello'. |
| Tell | Subject + told + someone + (that) + clause | He told me that he was busy. |
| Tell | Subject + told + someone + to + verb | She told him to go home. |
همان‌طور که می‌بینید، در tell بلافاصله بعد از فعل، شخص (مخاطب) می‌آید. در say یا مخاطبی وجود ندارد، یا با to می‌آید.
### When To Use It
از say زمانی استفاده کنید که محتوای پیام مهم‌تر از مخاطب است. مثلاً در گزارش اخبار، متون رسمی، یا وقتی نقل‌قول مستقیم می‌کنید. مثال: The sign said 'Keep Off the Grass'.
My father told me a story.
در موقعیت‌های روزمره مثل چای‌خونه یا دورهمی‌های دوستانه، وقتی می‌خواهید به دوستتان چیزی بگویید که او نمی‌داند، حتماً از tell استفاده کنید: Can you tell me the time? یا Don't tell anyone my secret!.
### Common Mistakes
  1. 1استفاده از to بعد از told: زبان‌آموزان فارسی‌زبان به دلیل ساختار «به من گفت»، تمایل دارند بگویند He told to me. این غلط است چون tell خودش مفعول می‌پذیرد.
  1. 1حذف مخاطب با tell: اشتباه رایج دیگر گفتن He told that I am late است. چون در فارسی «گفت که...» کافی است، فکر می‌کنیم در انگلیسی هم می‌شود مخاطب را حذف کرد، اما tell حتماً باید مخاطب داشته باشد.
  1. 1استفاده از say برای دستورات: مثلاً گفتن He said me to go. چون در فارسی می‌گوییم «به من گفت بروم»، زبان‌آموز فکر می‌کند say درست است، در حالی که برای دستور دادن یا توصیه کردن، ساختار tell + someone + to + verb استاندارد است.
### Contrast With Similar Patterns
| ویژگی | Say | Tell |
| :--- | :--- | :--- |
| نیاز به مخاطب | اختیاری (با to) | اجباری |
| تمرکز | محتوای پیام (کلمات) | انتقال اطلاعات به شخص |
| استفاده در دستور | خیر | بله (Tell me to do it) |
| استفاده با داستان/جوک | خیر | بله (Tell a story/joke) |
### Quick FAQ
  1. 1آیا می‌توانم بگویم He said me؟ خیر، این غلط است. یا باید بگویید He said to me یا از He told me استفاده کنید.
  1. 1کدام فعل برای «دروغ گفتن» یا «حقیقت گفتن» استفاده می‌شود؟ همیشه از tell استفاده می‌شود: tell a lie یا tell the truth.
  1. 1آیا همیشه باید بعد از that از tell استفاده کنم؟ خیر، that می‌تواند حذف شود، مثلاً He told me he was happy کاملاً صحیح و رایج است.

Yes, but only if you use the preposition 'to'. For example: 'He said to me that he was tired.' However, 'He told me' is much more common.

These are fixed collocations. 'Tell' is used for longer narratives (stories, jokes), while 'say' is used for shorter, ritualistic utterances (prayers, greetings).

No, 'say' is irregular. The past tense is 'said', pronounced like 'sed'.

Yes! In this case, 'me' is the object, and the 'something' is implied by the context.

'Inform' is much more formal. You 'tell' your friend a secret, but you 'inform' your boss of a decision.

It is always 'tell the truth'.

Yes, it can mean to distinguish or know. 'I can't tell the difference' means 'I don't know the difference'.

It is optional in informal English. 'He said he was tired' and 'He said that he was tired' are both correct.
