Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Greek uses two vowels together to create a single sound, known as a digraph; remember them as 'vowel teams' that act as one.

  • αι sounds like 'e' as in 'bed' (e.g., παιδί - pedi).
  • ει, οι, υι all sound like 'ee' as in 'see' (e.g., είδωλο - idolo).
  • αυ and ευ change sound based on the following letter (e.g., αυτοκίνητο - aftokinito).
