این گرامر چطور کار می‌کنه

عبارت‌های a lot of و lots of رو مثل مترادف هم در نظر بگیر. هردوشون یه معنی می‌دن، اما lots of یه کوچولو راحت‌تر و دوستانه‌تر به نظر میاد. مهم‌ترین چیزی که باید یادت بمونه اینه که اگه بعدشون اسم میاری، همیشه به کلمه‌ی of نیاز دارن.
نمی‌تونی همین‌طوری بگی

—این‌جوری به نظر میاد که یادت رفته چطور حرف بزنی! حتماً باید بگی a lot of apples.
یه چیز باحال دیگه؟ فعل توی جمله‌ی تو بسته به اسمی که بعدش میاد تغییر می‌کنه. اگه بگی A lot of people are... از are استفاده می‌کنی چون آدم‌ها قابل شمارش هستن.
اگه بگی A lot of water is... از is استفاده می‌کنی چون آب غیرقابل شمارشه. این عبارت مثل یه آینه است؛ فعل منعکس‌کننده‌ی هر چیزیه که بعد از of میاد. این موضوع اون رو با کلماتی مثل each یا every که همیشه فعل مفرد می‌خوان، خیلی متفاوت می‌کنه.
اینجا، اسم رئیسه! اگه اسم جمع باشه، فعل هم جمعه. اگه اسم غیرقابل شمارش باشه (که ما باهاش مثل مفرد رفتار می‌کنیم)، فعل هم مفرده.
ساده‌ست، نه؟ در واقع این نسخه‌ی گرامریِ بازیِ «دنبال کردن رهبر» هست.

دقت کن که a lot of سه تا کلمه‌ست. سعی نکن اون‌ها رو به هم بچسبونی و بنویسی alot. alot اصلاً کلمه نیست، حتی اگه کیبوردت بعضی وقت‌ها بهت گیر نده. این یه اشتباه رایجه که حتی خود انگلیسی‌زبان‌ها هم انجامش می‌دن، اما حالا تو از اون‌ها هم بهتری! همچنین یادت باشه که lots of دو تا کلمه‌ست. یا a lot of (با 'a' مفرد) یا lots of (با 's' جمع)، اما هیچ‌وقت a lots of نداریم. این مثل این می‌مونه که هم‌زمان دو تا کلاه بذاری سرت—خیلی شلوغ‌پلوغ و غلط می‌شه.

این‌ها برای جملات مثبت عالی هستن. در حالی که many و much اغلب توی سوال‌ها ('?Do you have much time') یا جملات منفی ('I don't have many friends') استفاده می‌شن، a lot of عاشق حس و حال مثبته. توی جملات منفی و سوالی هم می‌تونی ازش استفاده کنی، اما وقتی داری اعلام می‌کنی که کوهی از یه چیزی رو داری، بیشتر از همیشه می‌درخشه.
این عبارت مثل «هایپ‌مَن» (تشویق‌کننده) برای کلمات تعیین‌کننده در انگلیسیه. اگه داری بازی استریم می‌کنی و بگی

اشتباهات رایج

با اینکه این قانون خیلی باهات راه میاد، اما مردم هنوز هم پاشون بهش گیر می‌کنه. اینجا «مناطق خطر» رو معرفی می‌کنیم:
  • The 'Alot' Monster: نوشتن alot به جای a lot. تصور کن یه موجود کوچک به نام Alot وجود داره و یادت باشه که تو درباره‌ی اون حرف نمی‌زنی. تو داری درباره‌ی مقدار زیاد حرف می‌زنی: a + فاصله + lot.
  • The 'Of' Eraser: فراموش کردن of. نمی‌تونی بگی
    He has a lot money
    . برای وصل کردن مقدار به اسم، به اون of نیاز داری. اون مثل چسبیه که جمله رو نگه می‌داره.
  • The 'A Lots' Hybrid: قاطی کردن دو تا فرم.
    I have a lots of books
    اصلاً راه نداره. یکی رو انتخاب کن: a lot of یا lots of.
  • Verb Confusion: استفاده از is وقتی باید از are استفاده کنی.

    گوش‌آزار و اشتباهه. چون دانش‌آموزها قابل شمارش و جمع هستن، از are استفاده کن.
  • استفاده اشتباه به عنوان قید: اگه می‌خوای بگی چیزی رو خیلی زیاد دوست داری، بگو

    جوریه که انگار داری شعر می‌گی. به جاش از a lot of استفاده کن تا اون حس عادی و روزمره رو داشته باشه.
  • Plenty of هم یکی دیگه از فامیل‌هاست. معنیش می‌شه «بیشتر از حد کافی». وقتی از اون مقدار راضی هستی ازش استفاده کن.

    یعنی استرس نداشته باش! a lot of فقط یعنی مقدارش زیاده، چه ازش راضی باشی چه نباشی.
