Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

To ask a question in Latvian, simply add the particle 'vai' at the start or use a question word like 'kur' or 'kas'.

  • Use 'Vai' at the start for Yes/No questions: 'Vai tu runā latviski?' (Do you speak Latvian?)
  • Use question words (who, what, where) at the start: 'Kur ir tualete?' (Where is the toilet?)
  • Keep the word order flexible but keep the question word or 'vai' at the very beginning.
