Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

Use 'No' before a noun and 'None' when the noun is already known to say there is zero of something.

  • Use 'No' + Noun: 'I have no milk.' (max 20 words)
  • Use 'None' alone: 'How much milk? None.'
  • Use 'None of' + The/My: 'None of the milk is cold.'
🚫 + 🍎 = No apples | 🚫 = None

Overview

Tu ouvres ton frigo. Tu as faim. Tu veux un snack.
Tu regardes à l'intérieur. Il n'y a no nourriture. Ton estomac grogne.
Tu les utilises même quand tu n'as no idée de quoi porter.
Il n'y a no règles difficiles ici.
Enfin, peut-être juste quelques petites. C'est parti !

How This Grammar Works

Tu ne peux pas juste dire I have no. Les gens attendront le mot suivant.
, tu dis : None.
None of my photos
ou
None of these apps

2
The no Pattern : No + Nom (singulier, pluriel ou indénombrable).
3
Exemple : no coffee, no friends, no time.
4
5
Exemple :
Y a-t-il des cookies ?
None.
6
The none of Pattern : None of + Déterminant (the, my, these) + Nom.
7
Exemple : None of mes followers n'a aimé le post.

When To Use It

    I have no money
semble plus sérieux que "I don't have any money".
    None". C'est rapide et efficace.
  • Parler de groupes spécifiques : Utilise none of pour ton cercle social. "None of mes amis n'utilisent Facebook maintenant". Ça souligne une tendance.
  • Réseaux Sociaux & Tech : Utilise-le pour les erreurs. No connexion internet.
None of ces fichiers ne fonctionnent
No smoking. No entry. C'est court et autoritaire.

Common Mistakes

Même les pros font des erreurs ici. Voici les plus grosses à éviter :
  • La double négation : N'utilise jamais no avec not. ✗ "I don't have no time.« ✓ »I have no time. ou ✓ I don't have any time."
    I have none friends.
    I have no friends.
None est trop cool pour les noms. Il n'en veut pas à côté.
  • No avec Any : Ne les mélange pas. ✗
    There is no any milk.
    There is no milk.
    Choisis ton camp.
  • Accord du verbe : C'est délicat. Avec none of + nom pluriel, les gens débattent souvent. Certains disent
    None of them is happy
    . D'autres disent
    None of them are happy

Contrast With Similar Patterns

  • No vs. Not : Not s'utilise avec des verbes. No s'utilise avec des noms.
    I am not going
    vs.
    I have no car.
  • None vs. Nothing : Nothing signifie aucune chose.
    , tu dis None.
  • No vs. Any : No est pour les verbes positifs.
    I have no milk.
Any est pour les verbes négatifs. "I don't have any milk."
