Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Use the Imparfait after 'si' to express a hypothetical situation, followed by the Conditionnel Présent for the result.
- Si + Imparfait = Hypothetical condition (Si j'avais de l'argent...)
- Conditionnel Présent = Result of that condition (...je voyagerais).
- The 'si' clause can come first or second in the sentence.
Overview
Si j'avais le temps...（もし時間があれば…）と言うとき、半過去 avais を使うことで「実際には時間がない」という現実を前提として提示しています。これは日本語の「もし時間があったら」の「あった」が過去形であることと非常に似た感覚です。Si j'avais le temps, je lirais plus.（もし時間があれば、もっと読むのに）という一つの論理的な文が完成します。この構造を理解することで、単なる事実の羅列から抜け出し、より高度な推論や意見交換が可能になります。- 1Si節（半過去）:
nous形の現在語幹から-onsを取り除き、語尾（-ais, -ais, -ait, -ions, -iez, -aient）をつけます。例外はêtreで、語幹はét-です。 - 2帰結節（条件法）: 動詞の「不定詞（Infinitif）」を語幹とします（
-re動詞は最後のeを取る）。avoirやfaireなどの不規則動詞は、未来形と同じ語幹（aur-,fer-など）を使用します。

Si j'étais riche, j'achèterais une maison.（もし金持ちなら、家を買うのに）。現実には金持ちではないというニュアンスが含まれます。 - 2丁寧なアドバイス:
Si j'étais toi, j'accepterais cette offre.（私なら、このオファーを受けるね）。命令形を使わず、相手の立場に立ったアドバイスとして非常に有効です。 - 3婉曲的な依頼・提案:
Si vous aviez un moment, j'aimerais vous poser une question.（もしお時間があれば、質問したいのですが）。ビジネスシーンで非常に重宝される、相手を尊重した言い回しです。 - 4願望:
Si je pouvais voyager, j'irais au Japon.（もし旅行できれば、日本に行くのに）。
- 1Si節に条件法や未来形を使ってしまう: 日本語では「もし～するだろうなら」と言うことはありませんが、フランス語でもSi節の中では未来や条件法は絶対に使いません。
*Si je serais richeは間違いで、必ずSi j'étais richeとします。 - 2半過去と条件法の語幹の混同: 語尾が同じであるため、語幹を間違える人が多いです。半過去は「現在形からの派生」、条件法は「不定詞（または未来形語幹）からの派生」というルールを徹底しましょう。

Siのエリジオン（省略）の過剰適用:Siはilやilsの前でしかs'になりません。Si elleを*S'elleと書くのは間違いです。これは母音の衝突を嫌うフランス語のルールですが、Siに関しては例外的な制約があることを覚えておきましょう。

Describing a state that is not currently true.
