- Use 'ແລະ' (lae) to join nouns or simple clauses: 'ຂ້ອຍກິນເຂົ້າ ແລະ ດື່ມນ້ຳ' (I eat rice and drink water).
- Use 'ແຕ່' (tae) for contrast: 'ລາວຢາກໄປ ແຕ່ບໍ່ມີເງິນ' (He wants to go but has no money).
