A2 Expression 중립

خوشبختانه

khoshbakhtane

Fortunately

Expressing good luck or a positive outcome in a situation.

🌍

문화적 배경

Iranians often use 'Khoda ra shokr' (Thank God) alongside or instead of 'Khoshbakhtane' to express luck, reflecting the integration of spiritual gratitude into daily language. In Dari Persian, 'Khoshbakhtane' is also widely used, but you might also hear 'Bakht-e-Nek' (Good fortune) in more poetic or formal contexts. Tajik speakers use the same word, but written in Cyrillic as 'Хушбахтона'. The usage remains identical to Tehran Persian. Classical poets like Hafez often wrote about 'Bakht.' While they didn't use the adverbial '-ane' form as much, the root 'Khosh-bakht' appears as a symbol of divine favor.

💡

The Comma Rule

In writing, always put a comma after 'Khoshbakhtane' if it's at the start of the sentence. It helps the reader breathe!

⚠️

Don't Overuse

If you use it in every sentence, you'll sound like a cartoon character. Save it for actual moments of luck or relief.

🎯

Pair with 'Khoda ra Shokr'

To sound like a native, say 'Khoshbakhtانه، خدا را شکر...' It sounds very natural and warm.

💬

Modesty

It is neutral. You can use it with your friends or in a news report. It's one of the most versatile words in Persian.

Yes, but it's less common. It sounds like an afterthought: 'We arrived, fortunately.'

'Khoshbakhtane' is 'Fortunately' (adverb). 'Shans-ovordam' is 'I got lucky' (verb phrase). Use the latter for more personal, casual stories.

It's خ-و-ش-ب-خ-ت-ا-ن-ه. Watch out for the two 'kh' (خ) letters!

Yes, it's often used just to mean 'it's a good thing that...' even if no random luck was involved.

Not really, but 'Khosh-shansane' is a synonym, though it's actually longer!

Sometimes, but usually 'Luckily' is a better translation. For 'Happily,' we often use 'ba khosh-hali'.

Absolutely. It's perfect for reporting positive results: 'Fortunately, the project is finished.'

The opposite is 'Badbakhtane' (Unfortunately) or 'Moteasefane' (Regrettably).

It takes practice. It's the same sound as in 'Khan' or 'Khayyam.' Don't use a hard 'k' sound.
