In the Levant, 'la tubaligh' is often replaced by 'la tekbarha' (don't make it big). There is a cultural tendency toward expressive storytelling, so this phrase is used frequently but usually in a lighthearted, teasing way. Egyptians are known for their sense of humor and 'Afsha' (witty comebacks). If you use 'la tubaligh', they might respond with more exaggeration just for a laugh. Slang versions like 'ma t'ovarch' (from English 'over') are common among youth. In the Gulf, 'la tubaligh' is used quite formally in business but also appears in poetry. There is a high value on 'Sadaq' (truthfulness) in tribal traditions, so being called out for 'mubaalagha' can be a serious matter if not said jokingly. In Morocco, you might hear 'matzidsh fih' (don't add to it). The concept remains the same: maintaining the balance and not adding unnecessary 'weight' to a story or situation.
