Irregular Comparatives & Superlatives
Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
Most Bulgarian adjectives use 'по-' and 'най-', but a few common ones change their root entirely.
- Add 'по-' for comparative: 'добър' (good) -> 'по-добър' (better).
- Add 'най-' for superlative: 'добър' -> 'най-добър' (best).
- Memorize the irregulars: 'добър' (good), 'лош' (bad), 'голям' (big), 'малък' (small).
Meanings
These forms are used to compare the quality or quantity of nouns. While most follow a prefix rule, irregulars change their base form.
Comparative
