Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds
To make a polite request in Armenian, use the phrase `Խնդրում եմ` (Khndrum em) followed by the verb in the subjunctive mood.
- Use `Խնդրում եմ` (I request/please) + Subjunctive verb: `Խնդրում եմ տվեք` (Please give).
- For questions, use `Կարո՞ղ եք` (Can you?) + Subjunctive: `Կարո՞ղ եք օգնել` (Can you help?).
- Add `հա՞` at the end of a sentence for an informal, friendly 'okay?' request.

Easily Confused
Both words come from the same root 'khndrel' (to ask), but they serve opposite functions in a conversation.
The imperative is for orders; the subjunctive is for requests. They look similar but have different endings.
One asks about ability (Can you?), the other asks about permission (Is it allowed?).
