Accusative Singular: Feminine Nouns

Grammar Rule in 30 Seconds

When a feminine noun is the direct object of a verb, change the ending -a to -u.

  • Nouns ending in -a change to -u: 'žena' (woman) becomes 'vidím ženu' (I see the woman).
  • Nouns ending in -ia stay -iu: 'kaviareň' is a consonant stem, but 'kuchyňa' (kitchen) becomes 'kuchyňu'.
  • Nouns ending in consonants (like -osť) do not change: 'vidím radosť' (I see joy).
Subject + Verb + Noun(-a → -u)
